Bettering Your Mind, Body & Soul During Self-Isolation

People around the world have been advised to stay home in order to maintain their health. But being stuck in the same place for an indefinite period of time can be quite challenging for the mind. However, there are practices that can help everyone adjust better to this new reality.

Sit down, take a deep breath and pay attention to the needs of your mind, body and soul. It’s particularly important right now and just by following a few simple steps, you can stay organized and productive but to also practice self-care and have a healthy diet.

Human beings are creatures of habit and developing certain habits can be really beneficial to everyone in the current situation. Establishing a simple routine is a good way to boost your motivation and to keep your mind clear and focused. Here are 5 habits that will help you take better care of yourself and those around you.

  1. Don’t Include Your Phone in Your Morning Routine

For many people, the first thing they reach for in the morning is their phone. That can be a cause for anxiety and stress because you immediately get attacked by news, social media, messages, emails and to-do lists. There’s also evidence that the EMFs (electromagnetic fields) emitted from our phones may damage the cells, induce stress and disrupt the immune system. EMFs exist all around us, earth has its own, as well, so don’t panic, just try to avoid using your phone first thing in the morning and switch the airplane mode on before going to bed to reduce the exposure.

Give yourself at least 30 minutes without touching your phone after you wake up and start your day positively. Now, more than ever, it is important to let your mind relax instead of making yourself feel rushed and anxious. By starting your day stressed, you set the tone for a stressful day. You can replace looking at your phone with something that makes you more productive and focused like meditation, reading, setting your tasks or making a delicious breakfast. Be more present... with yourself, with the people in your life, with your ideas. You’ll be less distracted and more energetic throughout the day.

Spending less time on your phone can also help you build a better routine for yourself in these changing times. Take isolation as an opportunity to up your productivity while staying safe and sane.

  1. Dedicate Time to Read

Enjoy your morning coffee or matcha with an informative book that will keep you away from the news but will also train your brain. Reading is known for relieving stress and even easing the muscle tension, so it’s also a great relaxation method. A book offers mental stimulation, while keeping your mind fresh and focused. I drink a bulletproof coffee and read a book for at least 20 minutes every morning.

  1. Exercise at Home

The fitness world offers an abundance of apps and channels to help you stay active during self-isolation. You can download apps like Fitplan (They have a yearly membership promo going on now) or Aaptiv that basically turn your phone into a personal trainer and help you find your preferred workout style at home or in the gym. Various gyms and centres offer free live Instagram sessions to their followers. Enjoy exercising with B52s Insta lives, as well as sessions with Melissa Alcantara and Sweats & The City! In addition to that, you might want to add foam rolling to your warm-up or cooldown. It helps relieve sore and tight muscles and increases your joint range of motion.

Feeling anxious? Yoga is great for the body and the mind and there are great programs for everyone out there, so don’t be scared if you’re a beginner.
Staying active during these challenging times is very important for your physical and mental health. It’s vital for people of all ages to keep a form of activity in order to lift the spirits and boost the immunity.

  1. Maintain Simple Skincare Routine

These days we spend a lot of time at home, often worried and anxious which affects our mind but it’s also visible on our skin. Skin is our largest organ, so we need to take care of it, as we do with the rest of our body. During such periods of time skin can look dull, dry and irritated. Reaching for a good serum packed with antioxidants is your solution. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals from pollutants and stressors in order to help skin regeneration. Antioxidants can also block screens light from penetrating the skin. Première Classe's Urban Glow Antioxidant Serum combines powerful ingredients like Vitamin C, Organic Camu Camu and Organic Amla for that radiant, nourished and healthy-looking skin we all dream of. For an added boost of hydration on the most delicate areas of your face, you can use our Collagen Eye and Lip Masks, individually catered to your needs. To get the most of your beauty sleep, the Silk Dreams Sleeping Mask will not only help your skincare products work their magic best but will also enhance your sleeping experience.
Dedicating time to do your skincare routine is an important part of your self-care rituals that brightens your mood and keeps your skin glowing and healthy.

  1. Listen to Podcasts and Audiobooks

Audiobooks are a great way to improve your comprehension skills. If you want to get a sneak peek of a book before reading it, Blinkist offers summaries of thousands of titles. Audible is the most popular platform if you love audiobooks and podcasts and has a large variety of genres.
Your process of relaxation and switching off all that’s happening around you for a while may also include meditation. Meditation is a good way to focus on yourself and to look ”inward” rather than paying attention to disturbance from the surroundings.

If your mind often wanders and you need help on learning meditation, you can benefit from podcasts such as The Expand Your Awareness Podcast. If you need an advice on women’s health, Couch Talk with Dr. Anna Cabeca will cover anything from boosting your immunity, tackling anxiety, healthy eating and sleep disturbances to sexual health and self-love.

For the beauty lovers out there, Breaking Beauty Podcast reveals the world of today’s best-selling products and features interviews with top brands founders and experts.

Entrepreneurs on Fire is your business podcast that aims to inspire you and to help you with strategies and advice on your business journey.
Whether you pick an audiobook or a podcast, it’s a great way to learn something new and to safeguard your mental health while reducing your news intake at the same time.

Self-isolation is the best way to protect ourselves and those around us but it can be challenging. Focus on yourself and your wellbeing. Take the time to explore new interests and activities, and to develop healthy habits that will have a positive impact on your days and your mood.
